DIY Cleaning Products 1

I have mentioned in an earlier entry that I have been making my own laundry detergent for my family as well as for some friends and extended family. Well today I decided to take my experiment to the next level by making my own household cleaning products.

I am not some super GREEN Eco-Friendly fanatic but I am aware of the benefits of living a Green Lifestyle. What I am is money minded, I care about the budget. So after doing lots of research into ways that I can help cut cost in my home as well as seeing the saving from making my detergent I thought, Let's give this a try. 

Today I had planned on cleaning my bathroom and saw it as the perfect opportunity to try out some of these DIY Household Cleaners. I am not gonna lie, I was a little skeptical at the effectiveness of these DIY Cleaners before I tried them. But I can say with complete confidence that they worked FANTASTICALLY!!! To prove how good they worked I took photos for all of you skeptics out there. I am also posting directions on how to make/use a Tub/Tile Cleaner for anyone that would like to try it out for themselves.  



The Ingredients

Pour 1/4 cup into a standard bowl

Swirl Dish Soap Over Baking Soda and begin to wisk. I used a fork b/c it was easier to wisk with and allowed me to break up clumps easier.



Continue added dish soap a little at a time wisking it each time until it is the consistency of Cake Frosting. This is what mine looked like when I was done.

This is what my tub looked like before I cleaned it... Nice soap scum build-up.

I rubbed the mixture on my tub with my hand and let me add that that small bowl was enough to clean my tub and sink with some left over.

If you look closely you can see the layer of cleaner that I rubbed unto the tubs service.

This is the finished product. (The dots you see on the bottom of the tub have been there since we moved in and WILL NOT go away.) My tub is sparkling and smells great, on a side note.

I was very impressed with how easy it was to make this cleaner as well as how well it worked. I am also very happy about how little this cleaner cost me. But the thing I was most excited about is the fact that it is SAFE!! I have four children with my youngest just 11 months old and I always have to be very careful about residue left behind after using commercial cleaning products. This DIY Cleaner is safe enough that I could allow my older children that are learning life skills to use this with NO WORRIES!!! If they missed a spot in the rinsing process it was no big deal b/c the next time we showered or took a bath it would rinse away during that.

I also made my own toilet bowl cleaner using vinegar and baking soda that was also very effective. I did not think that any of you would like to see pictures of my dirty toilet but if you are interested in the recipe to make your own let me know and I will post it.

I will be posting several more post over the next week of the other DIY Cleaners that I am making and testing. I will be trying an oven cleaner later this afternoon so I will keep you posted on how it goes.
